Buildings and Available Spaces

With the return to on-campus teaching and learning for the Academic Year 2021/22, SF State will continue updating building access protocols to promote the health and safety of our campus community.

All Buildings Are Open

SF State’s plans for reopening are guided by public health information and guidelines. We are proceeding with caution and care to determine courses of action to create safe work and learning environments while also accommodating the anticipated increased number of students, faculty and staff returning to campus for in-person instruction.

All campus buildings are open for in-person classes and on-campus business operations. Building with card-access implemented, including housing and research facilities, are only permit assigned students, faculty and staff into their respective buildings. For more information, please contact a building coordinator.

To help mitigate the spread of COVID-19, SF State also offers virtual tours. In addition, you can install the SF State mobile app and download the self-guided campus tour map to navigate campus services and buildings.

Visitors to Campus

Visitors, including but not limited to guest lecturers and contractors, must comply with SF State’s Health and Safety protocols.

Individual Visitors

Visitors entering campus buildings must be hosted by an SF State employee or department. Upon their arrival to campus, visitors must complete a verbal health screen. If visitors answer “Yes” to any of the screening questions, they are advised to reschedule their on-campus visit. Face coverings are required indoors. Visitors should be escorted into and out of the building according to the official SFSU policy.

If individual visitors organize and/or participate in activities on campus, these activities are subject the campus Time, Place and Manner policy. The campus may also exercise its responsibility to control outdoor access.

External Groups

External groups are visitors to campus who are not affiliated with SF State.

External groups may access the campus buildings if the following requirements are met:

  1. External group is hosted by an SF State employee or department.
  2. Each visitor of the group must complete a verbal health screen upon their arrival. If visitors answer “Yes” to any of the screening questions, they are advised to reschedule their on-campus visit.

External groups should also be escorted into and out of the building according to the official SFSU policy.

Conferences, Events, and Meetings

SF State has opened its 1600 Holloway Avenue campus indoor spaces for conferences, events, and meetings. This includes conferences, events, meetings and celebratory events hosted by external organizations and internal divisions, departments, and organizations.

The updated guidance aligns with SFDPH, Cal/OSHA, and SF State requirements for conferences, events, and meeting of any size and with or without food and beverages (refreshments). It also includes requirements for conferences, events, and meetings with SF State employees and students only, with SF State employees and students and external individuals, and with external individuals only.

Conferences, events, and meetings held outdoors remain the best alternative: There are no physical distancing requirements and face coverings are not required.
