Testing and Contact Tracing Are Crucial to Protecting You and Our Campus Community
Ongoing testing can help to identify possible cases of COVID-19 exposure and monitor the spread of the virus within our campus community. Individuals who are currently awaiting COVID-19 test results should refrain from visiting the campus in person until the final test results are received; they should foremost seek the guidance of medical professionals regarding test recommendations and result interpretations.

Receive a COVID-19 Test on Campus
Beginning June 15, SF State will implement a self-service testing model. Test kits will be available free-of-charge from vending machines in the Cesar Chavez Student Center and Mashouf Wellness Center during regular hours of operation. Please be advised that these tests are only for the following groups:
- Employees (including staff, faculty, administrators, and students) who have a medical/religious exemption to the vaccine requirement who must continue to test on a weekly basis;
- Employees and or students who may have been exposed to an infected individual while on campus;
- Students and or employees who have a medical/religious exemption to the vaccine requirement and wish to enter the Mashouf Wellness Center; and
- Residential students who are exempted because they are required to test weekly.
Symptomatic employees should go to their primary care provider and should not come to campus for testing. Symptomatic students already on campus for instruction or other academic programming should go to their primary care provider or Student Health Services for testing.
Casual testing (i.e. without exemptions, symptoms, or close contact with an infected individual) is discouraged since testing resources are limited. The number of tests consumed by campus community members will be monitored to ensure resources align with demand and to ensure testing resources are not misused.
COVID-19 Self-Administered Test
Please note, the test is a non-invasive, self-administered saliva-based polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test. In order for the test to be successful, do not eat, drink, smoke, brush your teeth, use mouthwash or lip products 60 minutes prior to testing. If your sample is rejected you will need to be retested. The COVID-19 self-administered test kit will be a packaged version of the current test being used on campus.
Test Kit Vending Machine Locations:

- Available Monday to Friday during regular hours of operation
How to Access and Administer a Test Kit:
A smart phone is required to access a test kit from the vending machine.
- Logged in to MyHealth, enter your Date of Birth to confirm your identity, and click the 'Proceed' button.
- Click the “Get a ShieldT3 Covid-19 Test” tab, and when prompted, scan the QR code that says “Dispense Test.”
- To take the test, activate the test kit in MyHealth by clicking the “COVID Test Self Collect Activation” tab.
- Follow the instructions that will digitally connect the test kit to your MyHealth record.
- Complete the test (i.e. spitting into a small tube).
- Deposit the completed test kit in a locked box that will be emptied regularly.
Test Results:
You will receive a text or email notification when results are ready to be viewed on the MyHealth portal. Results are typically available within 12-24 hours of your scheduled appointment. To view the results, click on the ‘View My COVID Test Results’ button on the homepage.
